Part1. What is Aconitum root?
The root is poisonous and can be used as medicine. It has the effects of warming the middle and relieving pain, dispelling cold and drying dampness, and is used to treat wind-cold, cold joint pain or numbness and paralysis, and traumatic injuries. The aconitine extracted from the root of aconitum has a strong analgesic effect and is often used in the treatment of cancer. It is superior to morphine and pethidine because it has no addiction and no accumulation.
Part2.The shape of Aconitum
Aconitum sinomontanum Nakai (scientific name: Aconitum sinomontanum Nakai) is a plant of the genus Aconitum in the family Ranunculaceae. Perennial herb, root up to 20 cm, cylindrical, up to 2 cm thick. Stems (60-)95-150 cm tall, almost glabrous below middle. 1 basal leaf, long stalked with the lower part of the stem; blade reniform or round reniform. Racemes (20-)30-50 cm long, with densely packed flowers. Follicles 1.1-1.7 cm long; seeds obovate, densely grown with narrow wings. It blooms from June to September.
Part3.Where is Aconitum mainly distributed?
Distributed in Sichuan, Guizhou, western Hubei, eastern Qinghai, southern Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi and Hebei in China, growing in hillside grassland or forest.
Part4. Functions and Indications
Expelling wind and dampness, regulating qi and relieving pain, promoting blood circulation and reducing swelling. For rheumatic arthralgia, joint swelling and pain, bruises, stomach pain, chest and abdomen fullness, acute and chronic bacillary dysentery, acute and chronic enteritis, scrofula, boils.
